About San Luis Obispo, California

San Luis Obispo, strategically located half way between Los Angeles and San Francisco, made its mark as a city of scenic grandeur in the late 1800s and enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate year round.

Consistently acclaimed as one of the top ten places to live in the United States, visitors will find plenty to do. We have many excellent golf courses, plenty of vineyards, miles of surfable coast line, low traffic roads or aggressive single track trails for biking, dozens of hiking trails, great ocean and lake fishing, several hot springs and spa choices, incredible dining and lodging options, and thousands of nooks where you can just enjoy nature and leave the daily grind behind.

To learn more about San Luis Obispo, where to stay, and other ways to play, the California Festival of Beers recommends these wonderful resources:

Getting to San Luis Obispo is easy. We have excellent highway access from the north, south, and east.

Coming from the north or south, we recommend finding your way to Highway 101. This is a straight shot from the Los Angeles and San Francisco metropolitan areas and will take about four and a half hours from either direction. For the more adventurous, with additional time to spare, we suggest taking Highway 1 and experiencing some of the most beautiful coastline in the United States.

Coming from the east, we recommend taking Highway 46 west into Paso Robles (another nice stop), and then taking Highway 101 south 45 minutes into San Luis Obispo.

San Luis Obispo also has a great airport (airport code 'SBP') if you are coming to visit Calfornia.  San Luis Obispo is a great place to begin or end a California adventure.
